Yoga Nidra in Derby

In Person With Melanie Cooper

Location

In person at The Breathing Space, Derby Uk

Date

Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October 2024, 9am-5pm

You will receive

  • Upon completion you will receive a diploma, Yoga Alliance 40 hrs (RYS 300 & YACEP). This course also counts as Continuing Education (CPD) hrs with Yoga Alliance Professionals (UK)

  • Chance to dive deeper into a subject of your choice to get an additional 10 hours.

  • A tailored teacher training course focusing on your interests.

  • Plenty of time to reconnect with your own practice, and to recharge if you’re feeling drained.

  • Support from non dogmatic and experienced teachers: the empashis is on empowering you to find YOUR authentic way of teaching yoga nidra and to obtain knowledge to see what is needed for different students; there isn’t one size fits all for this practice (or any style really!)

  • Chance to practice teaching with expert constructive and supportive feedback

Who For?

We recommend that you have done a 200 hour teacher training (any style) but this is not mandatory! If you haven’t: send us an email and let us know and we will look into what other experiences you have and we’ll give you extra support during the course.
The intention is to give you, as a teacher, more tools, to broaden your teaching skills as well as your target groups. Perhaps you have done a training in a dynamic yoga style and would like to add a slow style to your teaching menu as well – to be able to teach back to back classes at studios and retreats?

We have a set structure in line with Yoga Alliance’s criteria, but on top of that we have a certain amount of hours that we can tailor for YOU – and as far as we know, this is quite unique: for you, as participants, to be able to take part in forming the course content!

We have experienced a lot over the years – and what we keep coming back to is how important it is to be authentic, to find “your voice” as a teacher and to have the courage to be YOURSELF when you are teaching! Working as a yoga teacher is amazing – but it also takes a lot of energy – and can be very draining if you are not looking after yourself. (And it’s so easy to not give ourselves that time/attention/selfcare – so in the training we will also put emphasis on how to create space for your own health and practice: to stay balanced and mentally strong!

We will cover

  • A non-dogmatic approach.
We will cover the main techniques and modern schools of Yoga Nidra and what they offer. You’ll get the chance to compare and explore different methods to see which works the best for you.

  • Yoga Nidra scripts.
Online resources: You’ll get ready made scripts in different methods. Together we will also explore and develop a treasure trove of ideas and scripts for teaching your own yoga nidra – as well as incorporating it in your own practice.

  • The structure
A detailed look at each stage of the practice; the intention behind it and how it affects the body and mind.

  • Modifications. Contra-indications.
How to adapt your teaching for different students

  • Basic science of Yoga Nidra.
Brainwaves, Hypnagogia, Basic anatomy of the brain, states of consciousness

  • History & Philosophy

  • Stress

  • Your own practice

Yoga Nidra In London

With Melanie Cooper and Jennie Wadsten

Location

In person at The Shala, London, UK

Course Overview

On this course, you will learn how to teach yin yoga in a way that is inclusive and safe for everyone. Many students find this slower type of practice is a gateway into their inner world, helping them to connect and go deep inside so they can truly rejuvenate though the practice of yin.

Adding this training to your skills set can help you expand your horizons as a teacher and for many teaching yin offers a positive change from teaching faster more yang based energetic classes. The course will cover a wide range of topics from sequencing to anatomy and fascia and meridians.

From the training you will learn:

  • How to give assists based on acupressure and thai yoga massage

  • The theory and practice of sequencing

  • how to practice and teach yin poses

  • how to plan a yin-based class

  • how to use props effectively

  • the theory and science behind the practice

  • support in finding your own unique teaching style

Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training - Online or In Person at The Shala London

2015-11-22 15.25.48-1.jpg

I am very happy to be collaborating with The Shala to offer a level 1 teacher training

Part One Dates for 2022:
Friday 30th September to Monday 3rd October
Friday 18th to Monday 21st November

Part Two Dates for 2023
Friday 13 January to Monday 16 January
Friday 24 February to Monday 27 February
Friday 24 March to Monday 27 March

The Shala School of Yoga was set up to produce an inspiring and authentic next generation of yoga teachers, crafting and intertwining traditional methods with a more contemporary approach. The programme provides a non-dogmatic comprehensive immersion introducing the vast subject of yoga. We examine all aspects of the science of yoga, from the physical practices of asana, pranayama, kriya and anatomy to the mental, philosophical and spiritual nature of the practice. The asana study is influenced by ashtanga but is broad in scope.

The entire programme of courses we offer is based on modules to allow students to flexibility for their own individual path of learning. Studying through a blended approach, in the studio and online, this allows students to comprehend topics fully and with a variety of learning styles in mind. The course gives space for learning, reading, coursework and teaching practice.

Our objective for graduates who want to teach, is to instil confidence, compassion and integrity. We aim for our graduate teachers to teach with passion and inspiration and for them to be able to spread yoga authentically to others in a meaningful way. Our 200-hour programme accepts 18-24 students per intake, allowing those involved to feel like they are part of a community and get the attention, nurture and guidance to take part in what is usually a hugely transformational experience.
