Who For?

We recommend that you have done a 200 hour teacher training (any style) but this is not mandatory! If you haven’t: send us an email and let us know and we will look into what other experiences you have and we’ll give you extra support during the course.
The intention is to give you, as a teacher, more tools, to broaden your teaching skills as well as your target groups. Perhaps you have done a training in a dynamic yoga style and would like to add a slow style to your teaching menu as well – to be able to teach back to back classes at studios and retreats?

We have a set structure in line with Yoga Alliance’s criteria, but on top of that we have a certain amount of hours that we can tailor for YOU – and as far as we know, this is quite unique: for you, as participants, to be able to take part in forming the course content!

We have experienced a lot over the years – and what we keep coming back to is how important it is to be authentic, to find “your voice” as a teacher and to have the courage to be YOURSELF when you are teaching! Working as a yoga teacher is amazing – but it also takes a lot of energy – and can be very draining if you are not looking after yourself. (And it’s so easy to not give ourselves that time/attention/selfcare – so in the training we will also put emphasis on how to create space for your own health and practice: to stay balanced and mentally strong!

We will cover

  • A non-dogmatic approach.
We will cover the main techniques and modern schools of Yoga Nidra and what they offer. You’ll get the chance to compare and explore different methods to see which works the best for you.

  • Yoga Nidra scripts.
Online resources: You’ll get ready made scripts in different methods. Together we will also explore and develop a treasure trove of ideas and scripts for teaching your own yoga nidra – as well as incorporating it in your own practice.

  • The structure
A detailed look at each stage of the practice; the intention behind it and how it affects the body and mind.

  • Modifications. Contra-indications.
How to adapt your teaching for different students

  • Basic science of Yoga Nidra.
Brainwaves, Hypnagogia, Basic anatomy of the brain, states of consciousness

  • History & Philosophy

  • Stress

  • Your own practice

Recording sessions
We pride ourselves in delivering a live, interactive course where students can ask questions, get involved and provide feedback, thoughts and input to the course as it happens.  There are many pre-recorded options available, but we think that it makes a better learning experience to really get involved and to keep that group atmosphere, so we don’t record our sessions.

We also want to respect the privacy of our students and friends: this is a safe learning space where growth and personal development can take place. We know from experience that it’s quite common that people get a bit nervous or uncomfortable when sessions are being recorded and therefore won’t participate in group discussions etc – and we want everyone to feel safe, to be able to express themselves, without being recorded.

Then there’s also GDPR: it’s against data protection regulations to record and share events without the permission of ALL participants.

You’ll get a completely comprehensive Yoga Nidra manual – so if you miss a session or want to repeat something after the course – no worries! Everything is in the manual!
You’re also very welcome to repeat the whole course whenever you like, for just an admin fee: £50 in total!

Will I be qualified?
After completion of this course you will get a 30 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga Nidra certificate. If you already have a 200 hours Yoga Teaching certificate you are now certified to teach Yoga Nidra!

The training hours of this course are set at 40. This course blends in person and pre-recorded online learning with assignments.

There are two days live: Saturday 16th March – Sunday 17th March 2024,  plus 16 hours of on demand pre-recorded material available for 1 year.

Prior to the course, you will be given access to the pre-recorded online content and advised as to what materials should be studied prior to the in person element of the course.

Assignments

The course consists of pre/post course study by way of reading, practice, reviewing pre-recorded content and some simple assignments. Not everything will need to be undertaken before the in-person element of the course. We will send you a list of priorities so you can decide which elements to start with.

  • The support and guidance of two experienced yoga teachers throughout the course.

  • Small group setting: lots of personal attention and feedback.

  • Plenty of time to reconnect with your own practice, and to recharge if you’re feeling drained.

  • Lots of practice in non judgemental non dogmatic environment.

  • Support in finding your own unique teaching style and your authentic voice as a teacher with expert constructive and supportive feedback.

We (Melanie and Jennie) have worked together for almost 10 years and have 45 years of teaching experience between us from teaching yoga and teacher trainings full time.

Please note that if you don’t already have a 200 hour teaching certificate this 4 day course will not qualify you as a teacher and you will get a “certificate of attendance”.

Location

Online on Zoom – from the comfort of your own home!

Course Material

As part of the course you get two full colour manuals included in the price: one on the theory and one giving details on the poses. We will send you the manuals as PDFs a couple of days before the course starts. Note!
Please don’t share the manuals with anyone. They are subject to copyright law.

Hard Copy Manual

If you also want a printed copy of the manual, this is available at cost price including postage within the UK and Europe.

No exams
There won’t be any exams. Rather, we are interested in seeing that you have gained an understanding and knowledge that you can apply to each individual student depending on their needs.  This course is intended to spark your interest in embarking on or continuing this fascinating journey.

The Shala School of Yoga was set up to produce an inspiring and authentic next generation of yoga teachers, crafting and intertwining traditional methods with a more contemporary approach. The programme provides a non-dogmatic comprehensive immersion introducing the vast subject of yoga. We examine all aspects of the science of yoga, from the physical practices of asana, pranayama, kriya and anatomy to the mental, philosophical and spiritual nature of the practice. The asana study is influenced by ashtanga but is broad in scope.

The entire programme of courses we offer is based on modules to allow students to flexibility for their own individual path of learning. Studying through a blended approach, in the studio and online, this allows students to comprehend topics fully and with a variety of learning styles in mind. The course gives space for learning, reading, coursework and teaching practice.

Our objective for graduates who want to teach, is to instil confidence, compassion and integrity. We aim for our graduate teachers to teach with passion and inspiration and for them to be able to spread yoga authentically to others in a meaningful way. Our 200-hour programme accepts 18-24 students per intake, allowing those involved to feel like they are part of a community and get the attention, nurture and guidance to take part in what is usually a hugely transformational experience.
